CLUB ACTIVITIES

Regular entertainment is provided within the club, as you will see from the diary of forthcoming events.  Keep your eyes on the notice boards for additional events that have not yet been scheduled.  As you can see there is a mix of free entertainment in the bar, major functions upstairs with food and live acts, charity functions, and speciality food evenings provided by our chef.  When we charge for the functions, tickets are available from the bar, usually two to three weeks beforehand.  If you are planning to go to any of these functions,  Please buy your tickets early to avoid disappointment and so that we know the numbers to cater for.  We hope we are providing a good mix of entertainment that should appeal to all members, but if you have any ideas for functions please do not hesitate to contact the Entertainments Chairman or place a suggestion in the suggestion box.
In addition to our programme of Entertainments, which is detailed separately, we have regular activities in the bar which are listed below

Happy Hour

All drinks at half price. This is currently on a Monday between 7pm and 8pm and Friday between 8pm and 9pm but subject to review and change so keep your eyes on the notice boards or these web pages.

Projection TV

We have a projection TV, which is located in the Derek Walker Room.  This is available to members at most times.  For large sporting events, the upstairs bar will be open, and food will be available. A new wide screen TV is available in the lounge for smaller events or when the DW room is in use.

Quizzes

These take place every Thursday and Sunday at around 9:15pm.  We try to keep them fairly informal. The format is teams of up to 4 players with £1 per person entry.  There are 30 questions and it usually takes about an hour.  The winners receive 4 drinks vouchers.  Don't despair if you are not a quiz expert or can't get a full team as your score goes into a “snowball” raffle.  This is drawn at the end of the quiz. If your score comes up you win whatever is in the snowball that week. If there are no winners the snowball rolls over, and can therefore be considerably more than the prize for actually winning.  If you're interested in quizzes, just be in the bar on Thursday or Sunday evening around 9pm when the quizmaster for the evening will come round with the entry sheets.

Monthly Prize
        Draw

This is drawn on the last Saturday evening of each month.  Tickets are available from the bar throughout the month or a standing order form for this is available from the bar.  There is no need to be present in the club when the draw takes place as we give you plenty of time to check your numbers and claim your prizes.  If you've bought your tickets by standing order we check them for you and tell you when you've won. The prizes for the month are advertised prominently on the notice boards, as well as on this web site and are always tremendous.  Some recent examples are.

London Show tickets with limousine chauffeuring.

 £500 Holiday voucher.

3 days in Paris via Eurostar

Members Free
        Draw

This takes place on the last Saturday of the month between 1 and 2 pm and again between 9.30 and 10:30pm.  To win the prize all you have to do is be on the club premises with your membership / door entry card when the draw takes place.  If the winning members are not present then the prizes roll over to the following month.

Meat Raffle

Every Sunday lunchtime we hold a meat raffle in the bar at around 2pm.  Tickets are on sale from the bar staff, or a member of the committee throughout the week.  The profits from this raffle are used to fund the children's Christmas parties and the annual senior citizens’ outing, which are provided free to our members.

Bridge We have a thriving bridge section, which meets on Monday evenings.  Please contact R Allison on Royston 243504

Golf  If golf is your game, we have a golf section.  For more information, please contact Nigel Willimer on Royston 260119.

As you can see there is a lot that goes on in the club but for those of you who just want a quiet drink, snack or full meal there are plenty of times when you can enjoy these simple pleasures.
